About the League
- The Harrogate District Summer Race League (HDSRL or even HRL for brevity) is a friendy league of local clubs which
organises a series of Summer evening races each year.
- Races are generally 5-6.5 miles and on the road, although increasingly the races include 'trails'.
When the League started, back in 1985, the races were in the Harrogate District and mainly on the road.
Over the years, the bureaucracy and cost of organising road races has increased with increasing road traffic.
Consequently, many of today's League races include some element of footpath or 'trail', and some are almost completely on off-road paths - check the
individual race details for maps and descriptions.
Distances are always approximate and courses are not measured: this greatly simplifies race organisation.
- All races are covered by uk athletics licenses.
- All races are followed by a social 'supper' provided by the host club.
- Members of affiliated clubs have their results count towards club team totals (see Rules).
- There is a one-off entry fee to cover the whole series of races and the handicap race.
- Each affiliated club has one or more delagates to manage initial registration before the first race, collecting entry fees, etc.
- The league competition is followed by a handicap race and presentation evening: there are prizes for individuals, club teams, and the handicap race.
